Guide
Google display ad sizes, and which ones to build first.
Responsive asset ratios, the static banner sizes that hold the most inventory, file limits and how much copy each size can carry.
Responsive display assets
Responsive display ads take images by ratio rather than by fixed banner size. Google crops and recombines them to fill whatever placement it wins.
| Size (px) | Name | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| 1200 x 628 | Landscape image (1.91:1) | Required asset for responsive display campaigns |
| 1200 x 1200 | Square image (1:1) | Required alongside the landscape asset |
| 1200 x 1500 | Portrait image (4:5) | Optional, wins mobile in-feed placements |
| 1200 x 300 | Logo landscape (4:1) | Optional logo asset |
| 1200 x 1200 | Logo square (1:1) | Recommended logo asset |
The eight static sizes worth building
Fixed-size banners give you exact control over where the headline, product and button sit. These carry the bulk of display inventory.
| Size (px) | Name | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| 300 x 250 | Medium rectangle | Highest inventory of any display size |
| 336 x 280 | Large rectangle | In-article placements on desktop |
| 728 x 90 | Leaderboard | Above-the-fold desktop |
| 300 x 600 | Half page | Strong viewability, high share of voice |
| 160 x 600 | Wide skyscraper | Desktop sidebars |
| 320 x 50 | Mobile banner | Anchored mobile inventory |
| 320 x 100 | Large mobile banner | Roughly double the mobile banner height |
| 970 x 250 | Billboard | Premium desktop header |

Specs to respect
- File size: 150 KB or less per image ad.
- Formats: JPG, PNG or GIF.
- Copy load: one short headline plus a CTA on anything under 100 px tall; add a subhead only on rectangles and half pages.
- Safe margins: keep logo and legal text clear of the edges so nothing is clipped when a placement scales your banner down.
Build every size from one brief
- 1. Describe the campaign once. Objective, product, audience, offer and CTA.
- 2. Select the Google sizes. Responsive assets and static banners are picked from the same list.
- 3. Review the preview. Headline and subheads resize to stay clear of the key visual at each ratio.
- 4. Export. Download images, or a layered PSD when you want to fine-tune text by hand.
Questions
One brief. Every size.
Stop resizing banners by hand. Adapt Studio composes each Google size separately from the same brief, in your brand colours and fonts.
